Recreation

Outstanding recreation is a hallmark of Mason County. We like to play outside and we enjoy sharing the variety of our terrain with visitors. By land or by sea, we have fun here year round.

Visitors and residents enjoy boating, fishing, swimming, scuba diving and water sports of all kinds on Hood Canal and South Puget Sound, the 200 plus freshwater lakes in the area and along the miles of rivers, streams and creeks. For folks who like to paddle, sail or row, the Cascadia Marine Trail stretches from the Canadian border south to Olympia passing through the saltwaters of North Mason. Scuba divers are challenged and intrigued by the deep waters of Hood Canal near Hoodsport.

For the rugged adventurer, we have 275 square miles of Olympic National Park and Forest for hiking, mountain climbing and exploring, all within a short drive of Hoodsport and Lake Cushman. Families and friends enjoy packing a picnic lunch and spending the day at one of our many county or state parks. Visit explorehoodcanal.com for an in-depth look at all of our recreational opportunities.

A large unguarded swimming area is marked with floating rope buoys between the pier and point. Swimming, boating, fishing, camping, picnicking, tennis and shellfish harvesting are popular activities at the park. A 2.5 mile hiking trail winds up the hillside and playground areas with swings are available for children. A boat launch is open year round.
