Tahuya & Dewatto

TAHUYA
Since the early days before the road to Belfair was completed, the tiny town of Tahuya has served as a vacation destination. Located 15 miles south of Belfair on Hood Canal's North Shore, Tahuya is almost at the "end of the road."

You can enjoy the beauty of Hood Canal at Tahuya's Summertide Resort and Marina, (summertideresort.com). This privately-owned resort offers several cottages for short or extended stays, a year-round boat launch and annual or nightly moorage. Summertide's 260 feet of waterfront beach invites summer sunbathing and beachcombing. Many visitors come to pursue the tasty delicacies of salmon, shrimp and Dungeness crab in season.

Tahuya hosts its own annual Tahuya Day festival on the first Saturday in July that features a wild and wacky parade, an ice cream social scholarship fundraiser, vendor booths and live music. Look for an annual salmon dinner held every August for the past 40 years and hosted by the local fire district.

DEWATTO
For folks who like to get back to nature and leave civilization behind, Dewatto, located on the eastern shore of Hood Canal about 40 minutes from Belfair, is the perfect destination. Waterfront and wilderness abounds in the area, with many campgrounds, lakes, rivers and hiking trails just waiting for exploration and discovery. The Port of Dewatto (dewattoport.com) operates a primitive campground with 60 campsites on the banks of the Dewatto River. Nearby Dewatto Bay on Hood Canal offers public access to a saltwater beach with oysters and clams.
