Belfair

Located on the inland shores of beautiful Hood Canal, Belfair has a natural beauty that is recognized and appreciated by visitors and locals alike. The town lies adjacent to the 135-acre Theler Wetlands located at the foot of the Canal where it meets the Union River. Homes on the saltwater shorelines and wooded ridges above the Canal enjoy spectacular water and mountain views.

Designated as one of Mason County's three Urban Growth Areas, Belfair is poised for economic expansion with the advent of the Belfair Wastewater and Water Reclamation facility scheduled to break ground in late 2008. The new sewer and storm water system will benefit the long-term health of Hood Canal and provide the backbone for additional urban infrastructure, thereby flinging the doors wide for the town's eager economic development.

In late summer of 2008, Harrison Hospital broke ground for a new urgent care clinic. A new Rite-Aid store will open before the end of 2008.

Belfair already serves as North Mason's commercial core, with four shopping centers, two major
grocery stores, several financial institutions, medical care and a variety of shops and restaurants.

The North Mason Chamber of Commerce, located in downtown Belfair at the mid-town stoplight, serves as the headquarters for Visitor Information and Mason County services, including vehicle, vessel, fishing, hunting and marriage licenses. The office is open Monday through
Saturday at 23910 NE SR-3.

Belfair officially adopted its name in 1915, but was first established as a town in 1880. The promise of logging, farming and commerce in those days brought people to the area, and a brief glance at past history parallels the boom of economic development and new construction that is happening today.
The Mary E. Theler Community Center (thelercenter.org) is a lively hub of activity for the town. The center is host to events for youth and seniors, business meetings and other community activities. A spirited board of directors and band of community volunteers is dedicated to preserving the Sam Theler legacy and making Theler Center the jewel of the North Mason community.
